The Nintendo Wii Craze Seems Unstoppable

March 31st, 2009

Wii is becoming one of the most incredible gaming experiences that is as of yet unmatched in innovation other than the same technologies being used in the iPhone and similar devices with motion sensitive technologies. The Nintendo Wii games experience is very intuitive and really immerses you into the gaming experience to the extent that your physically moving more than just your thumbs and arms. One of the great things about the Wii is the many Wii fit experiences that people can experience, blending gaming with exercising which solves the problem many have faced in game play that takes up most of your free time!

For years mothers used to get on their kids about playing so many video games that they wern’t moving around and getting exercise, but these days there are some powerful innovations like Wii Fit that includes a variety of different controllers that truly give kids exercise while playing by turning them essentially into the game paddle itself. They can jump around and really get into the fun games as well! You can even get games online that you can play with your system to take full advantage of your investment and keeping the kids playing for hours on end!

I am so glad I have not had to install a Wii chip or any other device that could void the warranty.  When I want a new game I no longer have to go to the store as I have signed up to unlimited wii downloads which is a real money saver and I can almost always find the Wii games I want.  Lately I have been more into health and fitness so I have nearly all those games.  I do still get other fun games for relaxation.

Vitamins For Hair Growth

March 31st, 2009

Just like any other part of the body, hair needs essential nutrients to grow. Vitamins, of course are one of the sources of nutrients for your hair and can be a natural hair loss treatment. Now there can be difficulties with getting enough vitamins to your scalp to feed your hair, which can be behind what causes baldness. The first challenge is that for a lot of people they just are not getting enough vitamins into their diet due to the food they eat. My advice to these people would be to try and ensure that they are getting their five a day in terms of fruit and vegetables, if you struggle with the 5 a day then try and get good quality supplements instead.

What may also occur to stop your hair in getting a good amount of vitamins to it is that if your body needs these nutrients elsewhere, this being the case then they will go where they are needed and whats left will go to your scalp. So in essence when your body needs to repair somewhere, then it will pull the nutrients to that particular point and whats left will then go elsewhere.

On the food side of things, eating a balanced and varied diet is obviously good for your health anyway, but even so because of the way food is produced and transported these days, even taking your five a day may not be enough to get you all your vitamins that you need, which of course can effect your hair. And on top of that there are two items that are regularly put in our food which are not good for us in excessive amounts anyway, and can affect the hair and they are sugar and salt, but there are vitamins that can combat these too, and we’ll take a look at them now.

Retinol which is found in Vitamin A is believed to be particularly helpful. Dosage should be between 10,000 to 25000 IU’s, and the amount varies depending on your size i.e. the bigger you are the more you take.

The other vitamin which is needed is B. Vitamin B is thought too be very beneficial against hair loss and can easily be found in supplement form. If using vitamin B do not be surprised if your urine goes an amazing shade of yellow, as this is your body getting rid of the vitamin B that it does not need.

Vitamin C is next up. Be careful with vitamin C as taking too much can lead to an upset stomach. To get best results take somewhere between 300 and 400 mg.

You need to be taking around 4-800mg of vitamin E, but make sure you do not exceed 800mg, and again judge your dosage by your frame, the smaller you are the less you should take. If you have trouble digesting fats you may want to take a water soluble version of vitamin E.

Lastly, there is vitamin H that is really a B vitamin. Vitamin H when taken in conjunction with vitamin B is really beneficial for slowing down hair loss, dosage wise you should be looking at 300mg.

There you go then, some of the main vitamins that help to how to prevent hair loss, however before you start taking supplements you may want to check with your physician first, just to make sure you are not going to have any adverse side effects and they may also be able to advise you on the right dosage to take.

The WPS Format and OpenOffice

March 31st, 2009

OpenOffice is normally quite versatile with the file types it supports - many old or proprietary formats can be opened and edited just fine. However, .wps files are an exception - even though the support for this format has been promised long ago (in 2005), the current distribution of OO still can’t recognize them. In this post I’ll discuss several ways to handle MS Works files in OpenOffice.

Some custom OpenOffice distributions come with the libwps library that allows you to you open WPS files. In particular, the Ubuntu version and NeoOffice can do it. With libwps the process is completely seemless, as you can open the .wps file as any other file.

Another possibility is to use the command-line converter wps2odt. You can find this converter on SourceForge. Note that the program is distributed as source, so you’ll probably need to install CygWin if you want to run it on Windows. On a related note, there’s also the wps2html converter (also command-line) that can convert the WPS document to a HTML document. However, keep in mind that the HTML version may not preserve the original layout.

Speaking of converters, there are also some free WPS-to-DOC tools you can download, including the free online service Zamzar.com. OpenOffice can open .doc files easily, and you can save them in the native OO format later if you want. The best part about the converter(s) mentioned in the linked article is that they were created by Microsoft. While that might not sound like a good thing to an OpenOffice fan, do keep in mind that MS is the progenitor of the WPS format, so their converter is probably/hopefully the best available.

Introduction to Hydroponics

March 30th, 2009

Hydroponics was derived from the Greek word hydro, which means “water” and ponos, which means “labor or water-working”. Hydroponic gardening involves growing plants with their roots in other nutrient solutions and without soil.

Hydroponics gardening is as simple as ordinary gardening. Both of them necessitate sufficient light, water, temperature, light, and humidity. But with hydroponics, no soil is used. Instead a soil substitute holds the roots while nutrients are carried by the water. Indoor hydroponic gardening is not that hard and plants respond well to this method of growing.

This is one of the major considerations in hydroponics gardening since it sustains the plants. One has to make sure that this nutrient solution maintains a pH level of 5 to 6 after dilution. In hydroponics gardening, the plants should be watered more than three times a day. this is usually done using a pump and timer.

Simple self watering systems such as the Aquapod Watering System or the Big Drippa Watering Kit. These systems can water and feed your greenhouse or patio plants.

If your hydroponics garden is located indoors, the most suitable temperature is between 71 to 76 degrees Fahrenheit. Of course, this temperature may change depending on the different types of plant you are working on, e.g. tropical plants.

Place your plants somewhere they can receive ample amount of light. Otherwise artificial light must be used. High pressure Sodium lights or bulbs are a suitable substitute for natural light.

Humidity is good. When the room’s temperature rises, the air will be able to hold the sufficient amount of moisture your plants will need.

With hydroponics, an excellent yield of quality plants can be easily achieved. Home hydroponics systems and DIY kits are are readily available in most hardware stores.

A hydroponics system can be fully automated. Since it is water-based, the gardener has no soil to dig or weeds to pull. Also, the water can be re-used to prevent wastage.

Tinnitus - Causes

March 30th, 2009

Tinnitus is the hearing or perception of a sound that comes from the ear or in the head. It is sometimes heard as a ringing sound but some folk with tinnitus hear a hissing, roaring, whistling, chirping or clicking sound. Tinnitus can get so bad that it may keep folk influenced by it from their normal activities as it may range in volume from sophisticated to shattering. According to the American tinnitus about 50,000,000 people suffer from this tinnitus and of these 12,000,000 cases are serious enough to merit medical aid. What’s vital to know is that tinnitus itself is not a symptom of some underlying illnesses.

It can be caused by wax increase, ear infections, and injury from loud noises. Oral medication such as aspirin might also cause tinnitus as one of its side-effects. Other causes of tinnitus include heart illness, head and neck trauma, jaw misalignment, and certain types of tumors. Some cases of tinnitus however, have no known physical causes. According to experts some degree of tinnitus is ordinary. This happens when acoustic conditions concur to make the sounds of the liquids within our heads audible.

These sounds are standard and frequently unobserved because outside and louder noises mask them and keep them from our attention. Tinnitus may happen after exposure to extremely loud noises like gunfire or a loud rock concert but the ringing disappears after a period, but when it recurs or remains, it could be a symptom of ear damage or illness. Exposure to loud noises has been catalogd by experts as one of the leading causes of the malady. What occurs is that continuous exposure to loud noises damages the miniscule hair cells in the inner ear, and once damaged can’t get replaced.

These hairs, called stereocilia vibrate responding to sound waves. These hair cells create electrical impulses that travel along the auditory nerve to the brain. Once these signals hit the brain, they are perceived as sound. Any change in these hair cells can upset the balance in the system, leading to tinnitus. There are two basic forms of the condition. Objective tinnitus refers to a sound even the doctor can hear. This could be the sound of blood circulating carried by the carotid artery, which runs close to the ear. However, a vast majority of cases are subjective tinnitus, or those sounds which only the patient can hear.

The devitalizing nature of the condition has led many to search out a tinnitus cure. However, there is no express cure for tinnitus. Doctors look for and treat the underlying root of the tinnitus treatment after a careful evaluation and check-up. Once the underlying cause has been removed or cured, the difficulty may depart. Expert studies have also shown that patients awareness of the tinnitus may be stress related and so should be remedied by gentle long term treatment. If you feel you are afflicted by tinnitus consult a health professional right away.

The data discussed is simply for researching purposes only. No treatment is implied. As with any condition it is advisabale to talk with a doctor when considering medical advice.
